McAlpine Mountain Cabin

The Cabin

Everything you need to know about your mountain escape.

The Cabin

The cabin comfortably sleeps up to 12 guests across five distinct sleeping areas. It's ideal for family reunions, friend getaways, and multi-generational trips where you want to be together under one roof without feeling cramped.

Just over 2,000 square feet, all on a single level. The open-concept great room flows into the kitchen and dining area, so the whole group can be together without anyone feeling tucked away. There are stairs to enter the cabin from the driveway, but once you're inside, everything is on one floor.

The cabin is single-level once inside, but there are stairs from the driveway to the front entry. There are no interior stairs, and doorways and hallways are standard residential width. The primary suite bathroom has a walk-in shower.

Sleeping Areas

The primary suite has a king bed, ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and double vanity, and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the mountain ridgeline. There's a walk-in closet and a TV. It's a genuine retreat within the retreat — close the door and you could be in a boutique hotel.

A queen bed with views of the mountain ridge and a large TV. This room opens directly off the great room, so it's convenient but not isolated.

A queen bed tucked into the sleeping hall, adjacent to a full bathroom. It has a closet and is set back from the main living area — a good choice for light sleepers or anyone who likes to turn in early.

Two twin-over-twin bunk beds plus a twin trundle — sleeps five total. There's a nightlight, a closet, and enough room for kids to spread out. Best suited for ages 4–12. Little ones love it.

A single bed in a small room along the sleeping hall that doubles as an office space. Works well for a single adult or an older child who wants their own space, or as a quiet spot to take a call during the day.

Kitchen & Dining

Yes — everything you need to cook for a crowd. The kitchen has an electric stove and oven, a large kitchen island for prep, and enough dishes, glasses, cookware, and utensils for 12. There's also an air fryer, griddle, toaster, and blender.

A Keurig coffee station with K-cups provided. If you're particular about your beans, bring your own — there's a standard drip coffeemaker too.

The live-edge wood dining table seats 10–12 and is one of the cabin's standout pieces. There's also outdoor dining on the deck that seats 6–8.

We have a high chair and a booster seat. Bring your own crib or pack-and-play if you need one.

Basic cooking staples — oil, salt, pepper, and a selection of common spices — are stocked. You'll want to bring your own groceries. The nearest grocery store is about 10 minutes away in Hendersonville.

Outdoors & Activities

The large covered deck has ceiling fans, outdoor dining for 6–8, and a propane grill. Below the deck there's a wood-burning fire pit with Adirondack chairs — perfect for evening s'mores. The front porch has additional seating for quieter mornings.

Yes — a wood-burning fire pit with Adirondack chairs set in the yard. Firewood availability varies by season; we recommend picking some up on your way in if you want to guarantee a fire. There are several spots in Hendersonville that sell bundles.

Absolutely. There's a climbing dome and ninja obstacle line in the yard, cornhole, and an under-deck swing. Inside, you'll find board games, card games, and puzzles. And Sky Top Orchard — a five-minute walk — has hayrides, apple cannons, barnyard animals, gem mining, and a playground.

No, the cabin does not have a hot tub or soaking tub.

The cabin sits at roughly 3,000 feet elevation on Mt. McAlpine. The deck faces east for sunrise views over the ridgeline, and you can watch the sunset over the orchard to the west. On clear days, the layered Blue Ridge mountain views are spectacular.

Yes — there's a short wooded trail on the property grounds. For longer hikes, DuPont State Forest (20 min), Bearwallow Mountain (15 min), and Chimney Rock State Park (40 min) are all nearby.

Comfort & Convenience

Yes, WiFi is available throughout the cabin. The network name and password are in the cabin welcome guide.

Cell service is available at the cabin. Coverage varies by carrier, but most major carriers get a usable signal. WiFi calling works well as a backup.

Yes — a full-size washer and dryer with detergent provided. Great for longer stays or post-hike laundry.

Bed linens, pillows, bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths are all provided. We also stock basic bathroom essentials (soap, shampoo) and kitchen basics (dish soap, sponges, trash bags, paper towels). Think of it like a well-stocked friend's house rather than a bare-bones rental.

The great room has a large smart TV with YouTube TV (live television) and Disney+. The primary suite and mountain view room also have TVs.

Yes — a gas fireplace in the great room. It's easy to use (no wood to haul or ashes to clean) and makes the whole space feel cozy, especially on cool mountain evenings.

Yes! There's a record player in the great room with a vinyl collection. Feel free to bring your own records too.

Getting Here

McAlpine Mountain Cabin is on Mt. McAlpine in Flat Rock, North Carolina — in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's about 30 minutes south of Asheville and walking distance to Sky Top Orchard.

The full address and detailed directions are provided after your booking is confirmed. The cabin is accessed via a paved road — no off-roading required.

The paved driveway accommodates up to 4 vehicles comfortably. If your group has more cars, let us know and we can discuss options.

Check-in and check-out times will be confirmed with your booking. We'll send detailed arrival instructions — including door codes — in your pre-arrival email a few days before your stay.

The road to the cabin is paved and well-maintained. It's a mountain road with some curves, but nothing that requires a special vehicle. In winter, we recommend checking conditions before traveling — mountain roads can occasionally ice over.

House Rules

Please ask when you submit your booking request. Pet policies may vary.

Smoking is not permitted inside the cabin. You're welcome to smoke outdoors away from the deck and entry areas.

The cabin is a residential property in a quiet mountain neighborhood. We welcome family gatherings and celebrations, but loud events, parties, or anything that would disturb the neighbors aren't permitted. Quiet hours begin at 10 PM.

12 guests. This is a firm limit for the comfort of your group and in compliance with our local regulations.

We don't expect a deep clean, but we do ask that you leave the cabin in reasonable condition — dishes washed or in the dishwasher, trash bagged, and personal belongings packed up. Detailed checkout instructions are in the cabin welcome guide.

Groceries and any beverages you'd like. Specialty coffee if you're particular about your brew. Firewood if you want a guaranteed fire pit session. Board games or activities beyond what's at the cabin. Everything else — linens, towels, basics — is provided.
